Fall Trip

Staunton River State Park!!

Every year we go on a vacation in the fall. This year because of your play, we're going a little bit later than usual. When daddy told me we were going camping late December, I told him he was crazy.

However, it has completely surprised me by turning out to be one of my favourite vacations ever. The weather is high 60s and 70s. Everyone is the for the most part, getting along- without a television!! (Miracle!!)

We have had hot chocolate, while sitting together by the warm fire, listening to Little Women, The Grinch, and "'twas the night before Christmas".

There were some bumps in the road.. Like when I decided to wash all the clothes by hand... In a cooler... With shampoo... Thanks to a kind forest ranger, that problem was solved also.

You collected about 10 sets of attached angel wings, one was very tiny. You don't know this yet, but Henry has torn them apart and destroyed them. I am sorry, my love. They were beautiful. I love you!

Merry Christmas.

Life as Cosette

Little one, you have made me so very proud. You got up there on the big stage and you were...
Incredible. Wonderful. Perfect.

I would have been proud of you no matter what, but to see your excited face after each scene that you were in, radiant and so excited... Knowing what a beautiful job you had done... I will always remember that.

Practices

Young Cosette

The night of auditions I was so proud I took you to Sweet Frog to celebrate.

Young Cosette

Big, big, big news.

You have loved Les Miserables since we saw it on Broadway last winter. We heard from our family friend, Jackie Goldberg Jones, (Who is a stage director and big in the theatrical community) that the Chesterfield children's theater was putting on a production of Les Mis.
When we told you about it, your eyes lit up...and we asked you if you wanted to audition.  You said yes.

When the audition happened I expected you to get nervous and staying your seat and tell me you didn't want to do it. That's what most six-year-olds would have done.  But that's not what you did.
When they called your name, you didn't even look at me.  You walked straight up to the front of the room and sang your audition flawlessly. There were a ton of other girls, all older than you , who were also trying out for the part of young Cosette. Many were seasoned actors.

I talked to you about how you will probably not get the part and how to accept disappointment but that we would still have a great time in the ensemble of the show.  That's the great thing about Chesterfield children's theater is that everyone who wants to be in the play gets a part somewhere.

To my complete shock and delight, I got this message from the director late on a Tuesday night.

Your daddy and I sat there for a few minutes in bed, totally stunned. I was excited for you but also scared and worried!  What if we tell you and you decide you don't want to do it?  Or...may be worse ...what if you say you do want to do it , then get up there on that gigantic stage and change your mind at the last minute?  Now... That could still happen. Even if it does ...... I am so proud of you.

We have had a few practices now and so far you absolutely love it. We are giving you singing lessons from Kaitlyn McCarter who is a Christian rock singer. You love her too. You love your fake stage parents that Thenardiers. You LOVE this world that is the stage.

We will see what happens, but like one of the directors said to me "we knew when we cast her that she was Six years old. We are a children's theater company and we know sixes can be unpredictable. But we think she is special".

The shows are dec 6-8 and we are practicing a lot. What a fun new adventure to wrap up the year.

Wow

I just want you to know that I am so so so proud of you and how you are growing. You are smart and funny, dedicated and determined to do your best, as close to perfectly as you can.
You are great with your siblings, sharing everything and always a good sport about compromising.

You hold fast to promises and dreams. I hope you stay with your beautiful and loving heart and it steers you to be strong but stay caring.

I love you beyond words. My Ruby.

Sweetness

Schoolwork

Your schoolwork expectations are much more intense this year, but daddy helps you a lot, and grandma too.

$20

So I sent you to your school book fair with a $20, the only cash I had.

I said you spend $10, and bring me back the other half in change.

You spent an impressive $19.97, brought home the 3 cents, and told me I could have half of it.

Ha!!!

My little helper

You and I helped to unload 2,000 pumpkins at church and then we had a special date at Sweet Frog.

So this is happening. :)
