Meet Blossom!

This is Blossom, Gma and Gpa Sawyer's new Pekingese.

Talent Show: Jesus Keep Me Near the Cross

You were chosen for the solo song in this play and sang just beautifully.

Your heart!

Just when I think I've got you all figured out.  You floor me with your kindness.

Eyes

Ear piercing!

Not a yelp or a tear!

Happy 8th birthday!!!!!

I try to remember to write you a letter on your actual birthday, but I am working tomorrow.. So today it is.

My Ruby. 8 years old. Halfway to driving. Ten years til you are legally an adult.. 😳

This has been the year that we tried some new things. No matter whether we decided to keep it or not, we learned things along the way. We homeschooled, we cried. We laughed and worked hard. You went back to public school. Ypu earned all E's almost all year. You had play date after play date. You were a service to our community with Daddy and the brownie Girl Scouts, you are learning piano with lessons from me..you and daddy read a little bit every night. You two have read almost the entire CS Lewis Narnia book series. You are starting to be interested in Harry Potter. You didn't cry when you got your ears pierced. You decided to cut your long hair into a stacked bob. It was a great decision. It is easier to manage, looks so much healthier... And is absolutely cuter than before. I didn't think it was possible for you to get prettier... But your hair is in sync with your heart.  You are doing such an incredible job of being nice to Charlotte, and I can't tell you how it makes my heart smile to see you two together lately.

To my beautiful girl, inside and out.. I love you and you make me so proud.

Donuts before VBS

Vacation Bible School

So we are starting with today and continuing until we are caught up. Today!

We did vbs at your preschool today. I am a helper teacher in Henry's 4's class with you. It is fun. The theme is g-force... But somehow during music practice we always end up singing Henry's alma mater, deep and wide. We are also singing Father Abraham had many sons (many sons had father Abraham...), a baby bird song, Zacchius and the wee little man, I am a Christian, and others.

I did take some pictures.. But as you can see, your class was sort of out of my camera view. Luckily, you took time this morning to document your many expressions while riding to church and hiding my phone. :)

Operation: Ketchup

I am catching up all of your baby books today while you three play. Summer has sprung... The pool is a cool oasis on already 100 degree days, we are doing vbs at a nearby church (cumc).  So far the summer is sweet. Smiles are big, cheeks are red from playing and sunshine, and your heads are heavy on your pillows when 8:30 rolls around. It is just the best of life, right now... And I am trying to slow down and breathe deep.

VBS: Gforce!!!

You.

You are just the best second-grader ever.

When I leave for work in the morning I often hear you doing your home and now Haumana Haumana head banging on your pillow.  And as much as you like to sleep, I often see you pulling your hair back from your beautiful sleepy eyes, creeping down the stairs just so you can get five minutes with me.  These days are precious and you're going so fast. As you are quick to remind me, your half way to driving. 😳

I ask you for so many favors, getting some socks for Henry upstairs, grabbing a shirt for Charlotte, waiting for me to finish doing something so I can help you with your homework. Helping me and (actually truly helping me) with cooking, cleaning, setting the table, doing the dishes, the laundry, fetching things from upstairs, minding the "little kids" while I do something quick... You are organized, thorough, and responsible. You really try to tell the truth. Criticism cuts you deeply, so I am careful not to be too harsh.  I sometimes forget how much you do for me. I often!! Forget that you are not my equal in maturity. You are my baby girl, my first baby love, who teaches me how to be a mom on a field that changes challenges on a daily basis.

You are quite literally my sunshine. And now you are almost 8..  All you want for your birthday is to get your ears pierced. We are having a pool party.  I am on board but you know who we need to convince!  We asked daddy last night and you know what?  He didn't say yes.... But he didn't say no!!!!
